Sweet cherries are the main seasonal berry of June. It contains a huge amount of vitamins and microelements and has a positive effect on the skin, hair, and gastrointestinal tract. This berry begins to go on sale from the beginning of May, so Life.ru asked gastroenterologist Ekaterina Kashukh whether such early cherries are dangerous.
According to the doctor, normally the surface of the cherry
should be smooth, shiny, without dents or cracks. The pulp should be elastic
and dense. If the berry does not shine, it is likely that it was picked a long
time ago. The stalk of the cherry must be preserved - if it is not there, then
an “entry gate” for pathogenic microorganisms is formed at the point of
attachment to the berry. Also, do not forget that the most delicious cherries
are those that are sold in the middle of summer, added Kashukh. Its taste is
much richer than that of early berries.
Before use, the berries should be thoroughly rinsed under
running cold water and then dried. However, if after eating you still
experience symptoms of food poisoning (stomach pain, nausea and vomiting,
diarrhea, dry mouth), you should consult a doctor as soon as possible. And if
you have a high temperature, convulsions, blurred vision, or confusion, call an
ambulance.
If we talk about the
benefits of cherries, then this is a fairly low-calorie product: 100 grams of
berries contain only 52–63 kcal (depending on the variety). At the same time,
there are a lot of vitamins C, A, E, PP, and B vitamins (B1, B2). The berry
also contains fiber, which helps normalize digestion. In addition, cherries
contain a large amount of anthocyanins - biologically active molecules that
protect the body from free radicals.
But at the same time,
it should be used with caution by people with chronic diseases of the
gastrointestinal tract - the berry can provoke an exacerbation of the symptoms
of the disease.
By the way,
earlier the farmer named the regions of Russia where the
most delicious cherries grow: these are the DPR, Kherson region, Crimea and Krasnodar region.
